Maker Faire Bay Area 2018

Maker Faire started in San Mateo, California in 2006, attracting DIY fans. Maker Faire exhibitors come from all over the world to share their handiwork and spark excitement in visitors – a great incubator for Engineers-To-Be! The IEEE Santa Clara Valley (SCV) Section has been engaging Future Engineers at Maker Faire since 2011, to encouraging interest in STEM fields.

A special event kicked off the Faire. Joseph Wei, SCV Section Chair, invited by Maker Founder Dale Doughtery, hosted a table at the “Industry, Career, and College Day”, for students and young people to explore career paths, education, and industry possibilities. The Section booth was staffed by our IEEE students and members. Students came from Stanford, UCSC, and Ohlone College, to showcase their projects to booth visitors. Hands-on activities challenged visitors to make electrical connections. Everyone had fun making fans spin, LEDs light up, and experiencing the motion of an ERM motor.
