TryEngineering.org – offers a variety of resources that will advance the skill and knowledge of educators who intend to bring engineering education into their classrooms and to engage and excite students about engineering and technology careers. There are over 200 lesson plans as well.
  • TryEngineering.org connects educators to more than 130 free hands-on, low-cost, engineering lesson plans. Each lesson plan targets specific age ranges and aligns with education standards to allow teachers and students to apply engineering principles in the classroom. Educators have access to all of the resources they need to teach engineering and the tips and tricks to keep their students engaged.
  • TryEngineering.org introduces students to the wonders of engineering through online engineering games and apps, that are educational, interactive and fun! Students can also explore ways to get involved in engineering activities, such as camps, competitions, research opportunities, internships, and scholarships. And students can learn about the different engineering fields as well as what engineers do from first-hand profiles featuring a variety of practicing engineers.
  • TryEngineering.org’s University Finder lists programs that have been accredited by a recognized accrediting body at more than 3300 colleges and universities in more than 80 countries.
TryComputing.org – is a free online pre-university computing education web site. TryComputing.org offers resources to inform and engage pre-university students, their teachers, school counselors and parents about computing and associated careers. Visitors can learn how to prepare for undergraduate computing studies and search for accredited computing degree programs around the world. TryComputing.org builds upon the work of TryEngineering.org an online resource for students (ages 8-18), their parents, their teachers and their school counselors. It is a portal about engineering and engineering careers, developed to help young people understand better what engineering means, and how an engineering career can be made part of their future.
Trynano.org – is a resource for anyone interested in learning about Nanoscience and Nanotechnology. Includes an overview of the field of nanotechnology, educational resources, nano expert profiles and a database of degree programs.
IEEE REACH – provides teachers and students with educational resources that explore the relationship between technology and engineering history and the complex relationships they have with society, politics, economics, and culture. Resources include: Inquiry Units based on the “C3 Framework”, primary and secondary sources, hands-on-activities, multimedia sources (video and audio), background information for teachers, and additional resources.

Competitions

Provided below are a few competitions that may be of interest to K-12 STEM teachers:

  • Future City Competition
    The mission of the National Engineers Week Future City Competition is to provide a fun and exciting educational engineering program for seventh- and eighth-grade students that combines a stimulating engineering challenge with a “hands-on” application to present their vision of a city of the future.
  • TechXplore
    TechXplore is a high-impact education program and competition that connects teams of students with technology professionals from electronics, telecommunications, and high-tech companies to explore the world of technology.
  • FIRST
    Participants master skills and concepts to aid in learning science and technology through innovative projects and robotics competitions, while gaining valuable employment and life skills.
  • BEST Robotics
    BEST is a non-profit, volunteer organization whose mission is to inspire students to pursue careers in engineering, science, and technology through participation in a sports-like, science- and engineering-based robotics competition.
  • ThinkQuest
    ThinkQuest inspires students to think, connect, create, and share. Students work in teams to build innovative and educational websites to share with the world.
