What is the Position?
The elected nominee will serve as Region Director/Delegate Elect in 2021-2022, and Region Director in 2023-24. The IEEE Region Director leads the Region Committee and oversees activities for the 50,000 members of IEEE in the Western US, and chair a region committee of more than 50 volunteers from 35 sections and 90 student branches over the 12 western states. The Region 6 Delegate/Director is also a member of the IEEE Board of Directors, the highest governing body in the IEEE. She or he represents the 50,000 members of the Region in the IEEE Assembly (Section I-200 of the IEEE Bylaws) as a voting delegate. In addition, Region Delegate/Directors are voting members of the Member and Geographic (MGA) Board and MGA Assembly as a voting delegate. Those Region Delegate/Directors in Region 1-6 are also voting members of the IEEE-USA Board. Both the two years as Director-Elect and the two years as Immediate Past Director require significant high level leadership and service to the region and at the major board level. What are the Qualifications and Qualities Needed?
The minimum qualifications include being of senior member grade or higher, being a voting member of IEEE Region 6, and a willingness to commit to 6 years of service (2 years as Director-Elect, 2 years as Regional Director and voting member of the IEEE Board of Directors and a Delegate to the IEEE Assembly, and 2 years as Past Regional Director). Desirable qualities include having high level IEEE leadership experience and demonstrated abilities, significant high-level IEEE leadership experience – such as section chair, society president, chairing a board-level committee, and or major board service, and experience serving and involvement in the IEEE Region 6 Committee.
What are the important milestones for this process?
- The IEEE Region 6 Nominations Committee is charged with searching for excellent and qualified candidates with this call for nominations – the priority consideration date is November 12, 2019.
- The IEEE Region 6 Nominations Committee Endorsed Candidates will present to the IEEE Region 6 Committee at the Region Meeting on February 7, 2020, in Los Angeles. The IEEE Region 6 Committee which votes to select and approve 2-3 candidates to appear on the 2020 IEEE Ballot.
- Candidates must submit their final ballot materials by March 15, 2020 to be eligible to appear on the ballot and are expected to campaign through the early part of 2020.
- Voting in the IEEE Annual Election begins August 15, 2020. The elected nominee will serve as Region Director/Delegate Elect in 2021-2022, and Region Director in 2023-24.
