IEEE has announced that it will be upgrading the IEEE.org Alias service starting 15 May 2013.
The e-mail alias upgrade is in preparation for a new member benefit, GoogleApps@IEEE. Current IEEE.org Alias users will have their forwarding settings transitioned to GoogleApps@IEEE within the next eight weeks. There will be no loss in service during this transition and no action will be required if email forwarding is remaining the same.
With GoogleApps@IEEE, along with the new mail forwarding service, members will gain a robust capability for messaging with access to e-mail, calendar and contact services from any Internet-connected computer. The GoogleApps@IEEE service will replace the current IEEE E-mail Alias service.
GoogleApps@IEEE will be available to members at no additional cost. Users will have access to:
- a unique IEEE e-mail address (e.g., John.A.Doe@ieee.org);
- 25-gigabyte inbox or e-mail forwarding;
- 99.9 percent up time guaranteed by Google;
- advertisement-free Gmail;
- storage of files in the cloud for easy sharing and access from anywhere via Google Drive.
In addition, members will also have access to Google Drive, Google+, and Picasa. With the use of these services there are varying degrees of privacy. This page describes the privacy settings. IEEE has a corporate agreement with Google that limits data mining. For further details see the GoogleApps@IEEE webpage.
