IEEE President’s Change the World Competition started in 2009 as part of the IEEE 125th anniversary celebration. The competition recognizes students who develop unique solutions to real-world problems using engineering, science, computing, and leadership skills to benefit their community and humanity. Over the course of several months, teams submit entries identifying a real world problem and how their project will offer a solution which positively impacts humanity. Winners will receive awards ranging from the grand prize of US$10,000 and the distinction of being named “IEEE Student Humanitarian Supreme,” to runner-up prizes of US$5,000, US$2,500, and US$1,000. Winners of the grand prize will also be invited to accept their awards in-person at the IEEE Honors Ceremony in June 2012. More information on eligibility, rules, promotional material, and a link to registration are available. Registration will close 31 January 2012.
