Introduction to Synchrophasors and PMUs: Settings and Troubleshooting

October 20 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am

Abstract: This presentation will cover: -The basic idea of calculating and collecting power system current and voltage phasors in a synchronous fashion across a large geographical area. -Briefly discuss some of the common applications available today and will mention that there is much research going on in this area to use this data further. -Discuss the basics of the IEEE C37.118 protocol, and then relate the protocol to the settings that are present in an SEL PMU and also discuss the settings that one will find in an SEL IEEE C37.118 Synchrophasor software-based client. -Discuss some troubleshooting skills that are commonly used for troubleshooting IEEE C37.118 protocol. The goal of this talk is to introduce the audience to synchrophasors, and then dive into real world settings and troubleshooting.
