Summary:
The 2020 National Electrical Code includes changes to circuit protection requirements. Initially, Ground fault circuit interruption (GFCIs) were required in bathrooms and kitchens. Now GFCIs, and Arc Fault Circuit Interruption (AFCIs) are now required in many additional locations in residential applications. GFCIs are required for personnel shock protection, and AFCIs are intended to prevent arcing circuits from starting fires. This presentation will discuss the progression and current status of these requirements.
