Seattle IEEE Young Professionals – 2016 Year End Report

Hello IEEE Seattle Section & PES Excom,

I wanted to share our accomplishments for 2016. It was a great year for the Seattle IEEE Young Professionals affinity group. Our achievements could not be possible without the support from the Seattle Section and Power & Energy Society. I also want to thank the YP Committee for helping to organize these awesome events!   • Jason Hall — Relay Engineer at PSE
  • Mohamed Tamasas — Aspring PhD Student in Electrical Engineering
  • Ravendar Bhojwani — Product Manager at Amazon
  • Abdur Rehman — Protection Engineer at PES & YP Rep for Seattle Section and PES

Hosted networking and social activity event — February 2016

  • 17 YP’s attended from differing professionals including aerospace, computing, power systems, information technology, computer science, and the government.
  • The fun and excitement from bowling coupled with meeting new people and networking certainly made this an enjoyable social event.

Hosted  a Laser Tag Event and Social on March 2016.

  • 15 IEEE members signed up for the event.
  • Laser technologies were discussed with Ted Nugent for 30 minutes.
  • Two 15 min laser tag games were played.

Very Successful Paintball session held on April 2016.

  • 22 YP’s all over Seattle attended this events
  • Thomas Wu from Panasonic Avionics gave a short talk prior to the games. He spoke about his work as a System Integration Engineer for commercial airlines. A good discussion followed suit on the changing workplace for engineers and Young Professionals today.
  • Everyone enjoy the open-discussion environment and many contributed to the discussion. Student attendees also enjoyed the networking opportunity with YPs. They asked insightful questions about jobs, interviews, and industry outlook

Hosted networking and social activity event and bowling on May 2016.

  • 11 attendees from various work places included Microsoft, Amazon, AT&T, Power Studies, and Puget Sound Energy.
  • There were some great moments of technical conversations during game play

Very Successful BBQ at Lake Tapps on July 2016. 

  • 19 professionals attended from across the industry , Power System Engineers, Software Engineers, Computer Scientists, RF Engineers, Mechanical Engineers, Electrical Engineers and Industrial Engineers.

 IEEE-USA Future Leader Forum in New Orleans, Louisiana on 28-30 July, 2016.

  • Ravendar Bhojwani, Troy Coleman, and Abdur Rehman attended.
  • According to the attended members, they believe the conference was a huge success and offered something for everyone. Each speaker offered great advice that they were all able to take back and immediately apply to their careers!
